How is the Darfur Genocide being committed?
Is it still happening?
The government responded to the revolt of the SLA and JEM by launching an assault against these two rebel groups. The response has included the combining aerial bombing raids with a sustained ground assault. The ground offensive is carried out by Arab militias recruited from local tribes and armed by the government.
The victims were killed by the Janjaweed militia. Hundreds of thousands of Darfuris have been killed already. Villages were burnt. Many were put into camps where men, women, and children were separated. Women and girls have been raped and abducted as well. Many other treacheries like poisoning water sources, tearing up irrigation systems, and looting cattle has been a part of the Darfur genocide. These attacks by the Janjaweed has been continued for the past two and a half years.
As a result to these actions, agriculture in Darfur has come to a large halt. Now, recent attacks have even targeted international humanitarian aid workers, raising the serious possibility that aid workers will have to be withdrawn and thousands will be denied the aid supplies they desperately need. Even today, the genocide in Darfur is continued.
